About AVES After School Association
The AVESASA program, as the name suggests, is a Before and After-School program for children P-6 attending Atlantic View Elementary School. The program is overseen by the AVESASA non-for-profit association and its executive, all volunteers.
Our goal is to create an organized, fun atmosphere for your child/ren and provide you with the sense of security that comes with the knowledge that your child is in the hands of qualified, loving individuals and that they can go right from their classroom to the program room without having to leave the school.
The program is largely based on a balance of well-supervised structured and un-structured play. It is the shared belief of the AVESASA staff and executive that after spending several hours in school, children need an environment where they can unwind from the day’s more structured, scholastic activities.
The program does offer a daily routine consisting of supervised, unstructured play time, snack time(nut free), with crafts, art activities, gym time, playground games, movies, etc.
Children are provided with a safe, fun atmosphere with which they can socialize with children of all ages that attend the AVESASA program.
Special holiday-appropriate crafts, activities, designation of peer helpers, and parties are planned throughout the year, along with recognition of monthly birthdays, and other child-appropriate milestones.
The program hopes to include visits from special guests as the year unfolds. In the past our regular programming has been enhanced with trips to the Discovery Centre, swimming, and bowling, along with visits from the folks at Mad Science and the “Jewelry Lady” and the "Lizard Queen". If you know of anyone in the community with a special talent that the children might like, suggestions are welcome!
The 2011 - 2012 School year is our ninth year in operation since taking over from the Excel Program. Since that time, we've upgraded the program by putting more money into our grocery budget, allowing for healthier snacks, juice and milk to be served. We've increased the money going into program enrichment which allows for occasional field trips and special presentations to come in and entertain the children in the program.
Since we've been in operation the AVESASA program has been able to donate more than $85,000 to Atlantic View Elementary for the benefit of the school population in general! Fundraising in the school has been drastically reduced, school field trips have been paid for by the program or subsidized, books have been purchased for the classrooms and the library, a Bulletin Board has been purchased for the front of the school by the road, LCD projectors purchased, the path to the school field has been upgraded, programs visiting the school like the Domino Man and Squid have been made possible in part by funding from the After School Program.
Registration Information
Current members of the AVES After School Program are given an opportunity for advance registration starting in March/April of the current school year. Packages containing an updated Parent Handbook, Registration forms, Fee schedule and Pre Authorized Debit form will be available to current member parents and may be picked up from the AVES After School Program staff. There will be a deadline announced for these forms to be returned by, failing which, registration is opened to new applicants.
If necessary, a waiting list will be maintained and parents contacted if/when space for their child(ren) becomes available.
Subject to space availability, new children can be registered into the After School Program year round. Currently, we are full and have a waiting list for spaces as they become available.

Program Fees
At AVESASA we are proud of the fact that we provide a high quality, convenient after school care option and have only had to increase our fees once since our inception in 2002.
There is a $30/family registration fee payable by cheque at the time of registration into the program. This cheque will be returned to you if we are not able to offer a space in the program to your child(ren).
Monthly program fees would vary depending on:
~ How many children you are registering
~ Whether you are registering for Full time (Mon-Fri) or for only a few days per week. (Please note, we only accept part time registration if there are no full time applicants on the wait list. Full time is always given priority).
There is a discount available for families registering more than one child FULL time only.
All fees for the AVES After School Program are collected via Pre-Authorized Debit and will be debited on the first day of the month from September 1st to June 1st.
A schedule of monthly flat rates will be provided at the time of registration for your convenience.
